The time has come to thank all our donors for their contributions in the form of financial funds, toys and motivational support.

Without these donations we would not have been able to renovate the crèche and providing food to the children and financial support to their teachers. On November 25th we celebrated the graduation of 16 children who on January 14th 2009 started to attend the local primary school.

local primary schoolThe graduation started at 10am and at 12 o’clock Peter was getting a little bit worried since he was nr. 20 on the agenda as guest speaker and the audience of women were watching the performance of nr. 4. It was certainly worthwhile the patience. Many children showed their mothers, aunts, sisters and grandmothers what they learned throughout the year.

There was a lot of dancing and singing and even the Sangoma did her dance. There was laughter and joy in the eyes of these youngsters which made this day under the burning sun of 35degr. celsius a very successful one.  After the official happening we enjoyed a traditional meal of pap, chicken and vegetables.

We received a nice parcel all the way from New Zealand full of teddy the graduation
bears, toy cars, candy and writing  material which has been distributed amongst the children. One of our previous guests who lives in Holland made a poster with a compilation of pictures and our last newsletter which she placed on the board at her company. She donated her company’s Xmas parcel to the VLH foundation and hopes that other colleagues of hers will follow her nice gesture.

A Belgian guest has sent us pictures for the children of the crèche which he took during his stay at Shalati. The children but especially the caretakers or parents enjoyed it very much.

Our vegetable garden (sponsored by the foundation) is doing very well and many of our guests, staff and their families have already enjoyed fresh vegetables and even flowers on the tables.

It is exciting to see how many people around the world are supporting us in our efforts to make the vegetable gardenlives of our community members a little bit more pleasant especially around this festive season.

Special thanks this year for the generous donations of Mr. Teun van den Akker from the Netherlands and GAP Adventure Tours, Echo Africa transfers and safaris, Highline tours and travel as well as Djoser Germany and many individuals who let their hearts speak.
